This is gold. I wonder how many of these types of lawsuits will pop up over the next few years.

We read that article yesterday. Among other thoughts, who has $2.5 million to give someone you don't really know for anything, much less for something like this?

He could have a case. Trump, and his campaign, have been lying in order to suck money from dupes. That is the essence of fraud. Expect most of the dupes will be too embarrassed they were suckered by a con artist.

He should have taken the 1 million and considered the other 1.5 a payment to keep this quiet and save face. As a venture capitalist I would think he would find higher returns in other projects.

The discovery in this case is going to be crazy.

Its also nuts that people donate that amount of money.

This just boggles the mind on so many levels.

I'm assuming this guy is pretty successful and intelligent, if he has 2.5 million to throw around like that.

How many times does someone need to be gas lit before they see what's going on here? It's like these people are victims of domestic abuse that keep coming back thinking "this time will be different".

I just can't wrap my head around how people continue to support anything remotely related to trump. I hope the guy doesn't get a penny back. If you don't know exactly what kind of snake trump is by now, that's on you.

Long Chile was a silly place.

I often think it’s a good idea to give millions to someone who has bankrupted multiple casinos and has bilked his own charity. /pink

Just speculating. In 2016, Trump campaign on lowering drug prices. In early 2017, he met with pharma reps and changed his mind. Trump was good to pharma and they were good to him. Last week, Trump announced a plan to reduce medicare drug prices (similar to a plan passed by the House last year, lol). Maybe the lawsuit is about more than voter fraud and Trump's incompetent legal team.

At the risk of getting booted to the other forum, this is a bit like Floyd Landis, who had to repay the folks whom he’d duped into donating to his legal defense fund.

I think the group could use the National Inquirer defense against this lawsuit. Everybody knows this is fake defense.

Is there any chance this guy donated specifically for the purpose of filing a fraud lawsuit when they weren’t able to prove their case?

It's some kind of advertising?

Hey you entrepreneurs! Do you have a terrible idea with no chance of success that needs a big slug of no-condition VC funds right now? Are you ok being sued if it doesn't pan out? Call Eshelman Ventures today!

Ooof... My suspicion is that this perception of a tight-coupling between intelligence and "success" (correct me if I'm wrong, but when you say "success", you just mean he's rich, right?) is one that's probably pretty societally harmful... I can't think of a better/faster litmus test for competence off the top of my head, but when an idea's most devastating rebuttal (has there EVER been a better example of the the tenuous connection between competence and money than the current president of the US?) is closely tied to the lawsuit, it seems like a good time to shove that idea under a microscope for a closer examination. If we (as a society) hadn't been (sort of) "conditioned" to associate wealth with expertise, would Trump's gaudy imitation of business acumen have ever made it through the Republican primary? My best guess is that there's an alternative history where he's busy running another business into the ground, and there are ~150,000 more Americans alive right now, but... I'd definitely be interested in what you think.

Just goes to show being wealthy isn’t a sign of intelligence or wisdom.
