What's in that British Columbia water?
Rach McBride, Jen Annet, Angela Naeth, have all called BC, home at some point in their lives. They have also called front of the pack home too.

On the podcast we try to find the connection this week as we interview Daytona-bound Angela Naeth.

We also dig deep into the uncomfortable but comical "most embarrassing moment in tri" question.

Not really what is in the water but more along the lines of "where in Canada is the winter the mildest"! Lori Bowden moved there from Ontario. You can ride outside on Vancouver Island really easily in the winter and the National Training Centre is located there which means that a lot of triathletes from other provinces relocate to have warmer weather in the winter.

Careful, if they figure out what's being put in the water, it might get banned :p

Exactly this.

As for why they all moved here, that answer is easy. It is (or at least was) a fantastic place to train. Year round outdoor running and cycling, some good pools and a lot of national teams are based here so there are a ton of great physio's, RMT's, etc.

I can't speak for the rest of BC but the south island is a bit of a shit show these days. Massive population boom means the cycling has degraded a fair bit, the pools are fairly dated now, etc. The weather is still great, though, and there is a big multisport/endurance community here.

Long Chile was a silly place.

Nanaimo or Courtney seem better options on the island?
Either way, from my friends who live out there, travelling to the mainland is always a pain.

Vernon is my choice... I'd be at Sovereign Lake Nordic all winter!
Brilliant road and gravel cycling. Lake swimming. Trail running.
Haven't swam there in a while but recall the pool being a bit dated and meh.

"Year round outdoor running and cycling"...dude, you know what the weather is like Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, right ? If we are not getting 100mm of rain its snowing.

Its a magical place, no arguement there. But i cant agree with the year round outdoor running and cycling comment :-)

Cycling in the winter is not always fun, but, it is doable.

Running is totally doable. Im not sure how one could call themselves Canadian if they can't even brave a vancouver island winter run in the rain.

I think we had snow on the ground for like 3 days last year?

Long Chile was a silly place.

.
It has always surprised me how some of my Tri-Geek friends in Penticton get all weirded out when I tell them I drink the lake water during Ironman and Ultraman swims and fill my bottles from all the local streams on rides. Then again, after I told them my grass eating story after blowing up on a Richter Ride one March, they aren't too surprised at any of the stupid stuff I do anymore.

In Canada it's spelled whisky (no e). I had no idea Canadian Club was distilled in Windsor. If I had to drink whisky though, give me some Crown Royal.

Whiskey is something that your wife wishes you were more of.

Whisky is how you get there.
