Gym floor tiles for beneath Concept 2 Ski Erg?
The ship date for my soon-to-be Concept 2 Ski Erg is approaching, so it's time to think about placement. I unfortunately don't have a basement, so it'll reside in a carpeted room. To make sure the ski erg platform is stable and to protect my carpet, I want to put some gym tiles underneath. Does anyone have any specific recommendations? I looked on Home Depot but I can't tell if these are 'firm' or 'cushiony'.

thanks!

I’m pretty sure those are the first ones I got and returned. They were really thin and kind of slippery on the up side- would not have been good for yoga moves in socks.

I ended up getting these and am happy with them- I have them on cement but think they would be more stable on carpet than the thinner ones. But they smell like rubber which the ones you linked did not really.

Strongly recommend you go for a mat instead - the Concept2 one is fine, but it should be pretty easy to get something similar.

10mm rubber sheet is what you need I own a flooring company so could have pretty much anything and i have put this under my bikes and treadmill and it works perfect.
This will absorb impact sound. I would not go for Interlocking tiles if you are putting them on top of carpet as they will keep coming apart. Keep away from pvc tiles they will be too slippery.

Good choice, I got a SkiErg in May and love love love it. Such a great machine.

Assume you're getting the floor stand.
The floor stand has 6 rubber feet underneath it - one at each corner, and one adjacent to where the support u-shaped bar bolts down. The feet are about 2" around. So, as far as protecting the carpet, it's like a couch or something, I wouldn't worry about it.

As far as being stable, the base is crazy solid. Like 1-1/8" thick. You'll be standing at the back of the base and pulling down towards you - the only thing you'll be doing is possibly lifting off the machine end. This would mean that either you're in World's Strongest Man territory, or you have bad form (pulling more backwards than down). There's a reason Concept2 doesn't sell a pad for this thing.

I'd say try it without, and then add a pad if you think you need it. In that case, the firmer stuff (like the Tractor Supply product recommended above) might be better.
Either way, enjoy the SkiErg!
