Unpainted New Cervelo Frameset
Does anyone know if this is possible to obtain? I would have purchased a P5D when it came out if the paint schemes weren't terrible. So I thought if I could get a frameset and have it painted that would be better, or maybe Cervelo would do this for an additional fee? I'm doubting that last option, but I don't want to buy a painted frame and have a third part strip it down and then repaint it.

Thanks for any info.

Short and sweet I love it!

So then, what are the drawbacks to getting a frameset through the normal channels and repainting it right away? Is my reluctance to that warranted?

it'll probably void the warranty unless Cervelo says otherwise. I know some mfr's used to have a deal with certain paint shops that they could do work that wouldn't void the warranty, but not sure if they still do that or not. Your best bet is to ask Cervelo.

it will void the warranty. no paint shop is authorized by cervelo anymore.

ETA - although if you painted the frame and the handlebar broke (due to a manufacturing defect), they might work with you...but it will be very situationally dependent.

X2 on the vinyl suggestion.

Doesn’t void warranty, can revert frame to normal for resale, costs under 200$ including heat gun. Can be done by your average hobbyist:

Not that it matters a whole bunch but I actually weighed the frame before/after, just shy of 200 grams.

Did you just figure it out on the fly or were there any resources you used as a guide? (website, blog, youtube, etc.).

Hot Tubes does great custom work! Plus they are certified buy a few manufacturers and they've done a lot of junior cyclists for nearly the last 30 years.

I have a 2012 P2 (black with red and white accents). I don't want to wrap the entire thing as I actually like my old girl, I just want to change the color of the red accents. What vinyl do you use for bikes? I assume the knifeless tape is the way to go to get good clean edges. A friend of my mine changed her nP2 by changing the red accents to blue and just that subtle change made a big difference (and made it unique).

This was done by a pro that normally does cars and I don't know the specifics. But accents are generally a better idea anyway as wrapping a whole bike usually creates unsightly seams.

I bought a used P5 that had been professionally painted flat black. I found a limited production style of stripes that Cervelo did on some P5’s and had a vinyl specialist copy the stripes, but change the colors to orange instead of red. Total cost for work up, application, and also decals for race wheels was $270.

That’s a great idea or my P3 project. I will cover the green parts with black matte vinyl. Thanks!

I think you might be right. I want an economical solution for the horrid flat white part of my P3 that shows marks if you simply breath on it, however that is unfortunately the entire fork and top half of the bike. Not sure I would trust my ability to make it look ok wrapping essentially the entire thing.

I'm doing this now. Any guidance on working around water bottle cage and cable housing holes?

For regular cable holes and bottle holes I would suggest heating like a small park tools pick with a lighter and burning through, this seams to work best and it’s also what I find best for the valve core on tubeless.

Try it first with some off cuts/scrap.
