RACE UPDATE

Dear Jim,

For the past few weeks our team has continued to work with respective local authorities and public health officials in preparing for 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 Muncie triathlon on July 11 and felt confident we would be able to deliver an exceptional and safe event for all.

However, with the health and safety of our community being an utmost priority, and based on the recent mandates from the State of Indiana and Delaware County Health Department in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, we regret to inform you that the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 Muncie triathlon cannot take place. We recognize that the change at this late juncture will come as a disappointment and we are working diligently to provide you with further details and racing options.

We also realize that this change may impact travel arrangements, therefore registered athletes are advised to contact their travel providers immediately to inform them of your situation.

While we are prevented from holding the event in 2020, we look forward to providing you with an exceptional race experience in the future.

Didn't the race director (who is on Slowtwitch) say this race is gonna happen for sure? Not smart to race. Should have cancelled weeks ago.

Well that seals it for future races to happen this year. I thought St George was going to happen weeks ago, but now no way!

I'm still holding out hope for St. George.

Finally a voice of reason.

Thank god they called it. I work with someone that was hell bent on racing there, regardless of whether it was safe or not. I'm glad someone made the decision for him, me, and my family as I would have been potentially exposed to anyone he was in contact with in Muncie.

From the second post, it said that the county/state cancelled, not the race director.

It is easy for us who are not organising to criticize!
Few weeks ago, the US were on a downward trend for covid case, this is no longer the case so I support the decision!
It seems also that the RD found it bery difficult to get EMT/Police/ city to provide necessary support to the race and I heard that most insurance do not want to get involved if cancellation happen!
The fact that athlete are suing the organisation in a middle of a pandemic doesn’t help either!

I think "plateau" may be the word you were searching for.
