For my Birthday, my wife gifted me a word; the Subject Heading of this post.

It's my choice to choose the word's meaning and part of speech.

Of course i turn to the enlightened Lavender Room community to gather feedback and ideas for the word's meaning

Any ideas?

For some reason, your sentence made me think of this:

Do you get to decide its gender, too, or is the word allowed to self-identify?

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine

An excellent question. I believe they would prefer to self-identify.

Awesome, as this was almost my identical response to her this morning.

I told her should should have created a wikipedia entry with nearly this exact meaning. Then when I googled the word, I would have seen its definition was a word given to me on my birthday. The downside is that just after I said that, I realised I just eliminated the chance for a return surprise gift.

Follow-up: is this word present a common thing in your family? Have you gifted, or been gifted, words before?

No, this was a first. She said the word just came to her this morning and she wrote it on the envelope of my card. For 18 years, we've had a rule that gifts can only be $20. All other funds go to our children's gifts. It's made our gift giving unique, thoughtful, and special.- much the opposite to Harbinger's apparent disdain. I imagine the idea for this gift is from a scene in The Family Man. A movie we first saw before children and thought 'meah' then watched again when we had two small ones and understood the comedy with laser focus. 'Now your getting the hank of it' ends that scene. Which is funny to us as a couple as we mispronounce or misunderstand each other's native language cliches.

So I have a lofty task to add meaning to it. Of course I turned here for assistance.

It's the opposite of schadenfreude.

"Fitzkischnortzelborb" (noun) pleasure derived by someone from another person's fortune or success.

Pulling a boner or mucking something up..... As in Bob really fitzkischnortzelborbed his presentation. Otherwise I would go with the word for simultaneously farting, snorting and burping. : )

When's her bday? You could hang on to the word and re-gift it.

Of course the LR does not disappoint. Much here to consider.

I'll agree that the gift of a word is pretty cool. I think a hallmark of a truly awesome gift is that is does not just bring joy - but a tinge of envy that you hadn't thought of it first.

Re gifting is certainly a distinct possibility. that is bit of a tradition and is certainly fair play.

Technically, I got the spelling wrong in the subject heading. With my inexperience in creating new posts, I was unsure if I could post the ö in the subject heading. The first o is actually an ö. Which of course is my wife's friendly jab at my remarkably consistent inability to pronounce that vowel accurately.

I almost gave it a definition today. I was not allowed to buy a power tool. I was going to define this word as a Significant Other that won't allow their partner to buy 'important' power tools. I thought better of that and decided to keep it open. For now.

Ya see, most of us are 'Muricans or 'Murican Juniors, which means we couldn't give a rats ass whether or not the o has a sideways colon or not. Which, btw, could be an excellent definition for your word.

I think you need to ask your wife, why she is teasing you like that. The word already exist and has a definition.
