In my experience Specialized helmets fit people with oval shaped heads and Giro's tend toward round heads.I have an Evade and really like it because it fits my head like a glove, now I am picturing myself with a glove on my head:-)

All 3 helmets you have your eyes on are really nice. Get the one that fits and comes in the color you like!

I have an Evade. Really well made.

Never seems hot

I had an evade and it was fine but then dawned on me, why not have the right tool for the job and bought an aerohead for racing and found a deal on a kask road helmet for training, been very happy with that decision.
I realize that wasn't your question but figured I would share.

I have a round head. The evade didn’t fit me well. It pressed on my temples.

The ballista fit me a lot better. I haven’t tried on the mips version to comment on that fit specifically.

Giros usually fit me well too.

Of the three I think that the trek lid has scored the highest in the Virginia Tech testing (5 stars vs 4 for the Specialized). Only the Giro has a visor and it is a nice implementation. Drag savings are all pretty close but I would guess the Specialized and Trek are maybe a smidge faster on most people.

What size was your specialized helmet? How did it fit and what size is your head?
I’m thinking about getting the Specialized 2020 Echelon II MIPS for my daughter who just had a pretty bad bike crash (all is ok but it FREAKED me out and she cracked her helmet). She has a size 22 inch head (right in between the small & large helmet).

The Specialized helmet that's on its way out is a large, which at the time was 57-63 cm.

My head measurement in 58 cm, and using the adjustments the helmet fit perfectly. Based on their current sizing for the Evade, I would be a medium

Based on what people have said in regards to Giro and Specialized fitted different head shapes(I also read the same thing elsewhere), I'll most likely go with the Evade

Since her head measures 22 inches and is in between sizes, I would recommend measuring in cm and see if it gives a better number. If she's still in between, get the larger size. When I got my first helmet the gap was 57-63, now the gaps are much smaller and the helmets are very adjustable

I know you already bought the Evade, but why did you chose that over the Prevail? Just curious.

I have an Evade II (that replaced an Evade I that saved my live a month ago) and it is light and cool and supposedly nearly as aero as the Evade. From what I read the Evade is out on the pointy end of aero at the cost of weight and ventilation (to a degree).

I didn't actually but the Evade yet, just leaning that way.

As for why I'm looking at the Evade over the Prevail, it seems to has a good aero edge and costs almost the same($250 for the Prevail and $275 for the Evade)

There is another recent post on aero helmets and referenced the VT Testing.....so I took a look. Looks like almost all of the Lazer helmets rank high on the VT testing so....not on your list, but I bought the Lazer Bullet 2.0 - may want to consider.(actually found a new one for $125). Didn't need an aero helmet, just felt like getting one....although I thought I would not like the built in lens. For a person that sweats as much as I do.....the built in lens is beautiful!.....I can now finish a ride with an almost clean lens when my sunglasses are nothing but a sweat magnet. The vent system also works well.

I have a Ballista MIPS. I like it a lot. It's comfortable and not too warm.

From what I've read I don't think the aerohead will fit my head shape. I'm also not trying to spend that much; I'm getting back into the sport after a few years off and in recent weeks I've added a new bike computer, power meter and aero wheels to my bike(as well as a new fit).

However, I do like your overall advice. I'm still considered the Evade, but also looking into a basic Kask road helmet(the Rapido) and SLS3 Triathlon Helmet(the cost of both combined would be $180)

By chance in a nearby shop I saw a Limar 007. I liked the shape but it didn't have a shield. Just now I checked Limar's website and saw 2 helmets that do have shields. Both the new 007 and the Speed King look pretty fast.

POC Octal aero. Most comfortable helmet I’ve ever worn and I’ve worn a few.

Easy. Just take a look at the Virginia Tech helmet safety rankings and select the safest helmet that actually fits you and that you can afford. Job done. Helmets are there to keep you safer, so why buy based on any other criteria????

You might wanna check about the strength of the magnets holding the lenses on if you go that route. I've read that some other helmets that had lenses which were held on by weak magnets and were flying off during the ride.

I love the Giro Vanquish. I thought it may be hot but I used it for Ironman 70.3 Boulder last year, which was a scorcher, and it felt great. My favorite feature of the Vanquish is the visor. It attaches easily and stays put even in bumpy rides and it makes everything look so crisp. I also find the helmet to be very comfortable, but that's more of a personal thing.

The SLS3 is an incredible price for a tri helmet.

I found a Vanquish for a nice discount but its still $50 more than the sls3.

What did you decide?

I remember a time when people bought helmets because they were faster and/or better cooling. Man I miss those days.

By the way, get the Evade. It's the best fitting and fastest helmet I've ever had. Enjoy!

I’ve ruled out the Vanquish; based on what I’ve read I don’t think that it will fit my head the best.

I still considering the Evade, the SLS3 TT helmet for racing and a basic Kask road helmet for training, and I’m also looking at the Lazer Bullet 2.0(it has 2 different front vents-1 for more cooling and 1 for aero)
