Recently I've been enjoying watching old cycling races on the trainer (mostly through NBC Sports Gold). Is there a way to watch old ITU races (preferably for free)?

I don't know about old stuff, but the past few seasons are all on youtube; full races. I watch them this winter while I was on the trainer. There is nothing more exciting, in this sport than an ITU mixed relay.

They were offering 1year subscriptions for free couple of months ago, but it seems it’s now over. Anyway, it’s not that expensive for a year, and you can watch ITU live races as well (whenever they start happening)
