Tapering for an Ultramarathon
So there’s a 12 hour ultramarathon in town on June 8th that I’m thinking about participating in. I’ve been doing 70+ mile weeks for the last five weeks and did 85 last week to go along with ~9 hours cycling. I’ve never run further than a marathon and wondering how y’all normally taper for a 50+ mile race. My plan is to run at least 50 and then assess how bad I feel and go from there. Any tips appreciated.

Listen to your body day by day and lean on the side of over-rested rather than over-trained. You don't need to be firing on all cylinders from the starting line in these ultra events. There's plenty of time to get warmed up and it's not a huge deal if you start out feeling a little dull/sluggish.

My best ultra run/triathlon performances have come at races were something has caused me to rest more than normal in the last weeks leading to the event.
