Agree. Cameron Brown seemed to do “okay” at Kona, considering the race was dead at the end of winter for him.

Can someone please provide some clarification, if any? Obviously we received the email stating that the race in November has been ~at the least~ postponed. It has recently been announced that the coming Ironman VR races will count as IM 70.3 World Championship qualification events to the race in New Zealand. How can they advertise slots when they themselves don't know if the race will be postponed, cancelled altogether, etc?

Why can't they? If you qualify for the WC through the VR races you'll just be in the same boat as the rest of us who have qualified and paid for Taupo. They obviously want to get their qualified numbers up asap as they are short. Who knows how many actual physical races will be able to be completed prior to the potential of a WC event in the first half of 2021, and technically any races after June/July would be qualification for St. George, unless they shift some things, or give options. If a postponed 2020 WC is going to happen in any form they have to start qualifying some people asap.

True enough, but before they can get someone who earns a 70.3 WC slot through a VR race to accept the spot and pay the entry fee, don't they need to tell him/her when and where the race would be held? In normal times when qualification spots are awarded, you need to accept or decline AND pay the entry fee on the spot. Maybe IM won't require such a commitment for those who qualify via VR until they have the new date (and venue?) nailed down.

With Lubbock and Muncie potentially about to go off, I will be curious to see which 70.3 WC slots are given to. The websites all indicate 2021 still - but then again, I wouldn't hold my breath that this in fact still holds true.

Ironman posted the official announcement that the 2020 70.3 WC is totally cancelled in any form. But, maybe NZ in 2022. It is on my list. And I am hopeful and looking forward to St. George in 2021!
