Di2 - rear won’t shift easier, only harder
Quote | Reply
LBS is closed and Dr. YouTube isn’t much help. Maybe the hive...

Somewhere in between a mid-ride flat change and putting on a different rear wheel, I must have funked up my Di2 yesterday. I’m new to such fancy problems.

Basically it works perfectly shifting to the right/ harder gear. Going easier is the problem. It makes noise, but only the front ring shifter actually does anything.

Thoughts?

ETA - unit is fully charged.

Make sure the cable from the shifter is connected to the junction box.

Technique will always last longer then energy production. Improve biomechanics, improve performance.

I will double check. I assume it is as the front derailleur shifts to the small ring.

Quick and dirty though is that the servo motor is failing. Going from a larger cog to a smaller cog is easier. So, if it is struggling going the harder direction, then my hunch is the motor is failing or the the bearings servo gearing are binding.

The other possibility is that the RD went into crash mode. To reset it, push and hold the Junction A button for five seconds or more until you get a blinking red light on the junction box.

Edit: When it resets, it will run the RD through all the gears. So, be ready to spin the pedals to enable it to shift. (Or, remove the rear wheel before doing the crash mode reset.)

Di2 going into crash mode is one possibility.
