Cheney Admits Drinking Before the Shooting...Happy Now?
I'm not a hunter, and the only gun in our house is my son's Daisy Red Ryder BB gun, but I'm pretty sure that drinking doesn't mix with hunting. Any hunters care to comment on this? For a guy filling the shoes of the VP of the US who has at least 2 DUIs on his record, I think this is a big mistake.

P.S. - I love the one beer line - that is the most common answer given to cops when they stop drivers and ask them if they've been drinking.

Let's hope that it was only one beer. If it's not true Cheney will be in trouble.

Lets hope he drank a whole case and that he is in trouble up to his fat lardy neck.

As mentioned investigators have ruled out alcohol in this matter. Probably one of the first things they asked.

Brian you really are amazing! so they "asked" if alcohol played a role in the shooting, Cheney says no...and you think that constitutes an investigation???

So if Joe Smith accidentally shoots someone with a shotgun and the cops arrive and ask Joe if he had been drinking, and Joe answers, "yeah, but I just had one beer"...do you think the cops would administer a blood alcohol test? Especially if Joe had 2 prior DUIs?

The police were informed of the incident a couple of hours after it happened, but did not interview Cheney until the next morning, so any obvious drinking would have passed through his system long ago.

The drinking would explain a lot, including the shooting and the strange response afterwards.

Drinking would explain a lot, but I think I'll refrain from putting my tin foil hat on for now, thanks. What's that Ken is always going on about? Occam's razor, or something like that?

4 p.m.: Cheney begins an afternoon quail hunt with four other hunters on the private Armstrong Ranch in south Texas. They had been hunting earlier in the day, but took a break for lunch (where they had been drinking beer).

6:30 p.m.: Cheney accidentally shoots fellow hunter Harry Whittington while aiming for a bird. Secret Service agents and medical personnel with Cheney tend to wounds on Whittington's face, neck and chest.
7:20 p.m.: An ambulance takes Whittington to a Christus Spohn Hospital Kleburg.

7:30 p.m.: White House chief of staff Andy Card tells President Bush there was an accident, but Card is unaware Cheney was involved.

7:50 p.m.: The head of the Secret Service office in McAllen, Texas, calls the Kenedy County sheriff to report the accident. The sheriff asks to speak to Cheney, and they schedule an interview for 9 a.m. Sunday. At the White House, presidential aide Karl Rove tells Bush that Cheney was the shooter, after talking to ranch owner Katharine Armstrong.

Saturday evening: Cheney and the rest of the hunting party sit down for dinner at the ranch. At some point, sheriff's deputies who heard reports of the ambulance responding to an accident at the ranch stop at the front gate to see if anyone needs help, but are told no one needs assistance. The Secret Service earlier had said the deputies were seeking to interview Cheney, but on Tuesday they said that was not the case. Armstrong says no one at the dinner discussed announcing the accident to the public because they were all focused on Whittington's well being.

9:15 p.m.: Whittington is flown to Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial and is treated in the intensive care unit.

Looks like a thorough and complete investigation, well done guys. Nothing more to see here folks.

Well, certainly thorough enough for those who would like it to go away, no more annoying questions asked.

Drinking would explain a lot, but if it were the case I don't think we'd ever know about it for sure.

Hunting........drinking. Those are, like, two of the state pastimes back in my home state of Michigan. And when you can combine 'em....well, that's like a bonus, sadly.

Actually Ted Nugent doesn't drink, and never has. In fact, he claims to never have done any drugs either. He's wacked nonetheless.

"I'm pretty sure that drinking doesn't mix with hunting."

I live right in the heart of rural deer hunting country. They do go hand in hand even though they're not supposed to. Drinking and deer hunting - a two week ritual every November.

BTW, of the two, I don't hunt.
