I have a self-funded leave from my job coming up in a couple of years and want to race a few full Ironmans. I am wondering how many is a reasonable amount to shoot for. To be clear, I want to have good performances (in the B+ to A- range) at each race and not just do a bunch for the sake of doing a bunch. I am thinking that either 3 or 4 would be the right number, but that's just a guess. Looking for ideas and advice, particularly from those who have done several full IMs in one season themselves.
Background: I have completed 7 half-distance and 3 full distance events in the past, including 2 fulls and 1 half in 2019. I am in my late 40s with a PB of 12h15m so not fast by any stretch of the imagination.
