Way to go Tiger, 4k has to be some kind of recent daily record, usually a weeks worth of yardages for you...

I went yesterday to do my last sort of taper swim before the swim/run this weekend, taper might not be the best word, recovery. Lots of kicking to flush out the legs, going in racing on fumes.

4x(300IM kick@6;30/200p@3;00) pulls- 2;33/30/31/32- kicks-6;07/5;53/548/5;47

Ok I am back to pool training after my sporadic swim training in prep for Dubai 70.3. I have a local swim meet next weekend and provincials in 4 weeks. Next weekend I have 200 fly, 100 fly, 50 fly, 50 back, 100 back, 50 breast, 100 breast, 100IM, 400IM. I had a planned cortisone shot for my lumbar disc 7 days ago so I will move beyond just cruising around (last bunch of days) and gradually do harder sets of 25's and 50's to get ready for the swim meet.

LOLZ, it is, but I'm nursing a running injury so the swim volume is going to go up.

Did I mention what a treat it was to swim in a top-notch facility? ooommmgggg

Nice swim, TC!
I'm tapering, as well, for Catalina SwimRun long course. Today: Just under 2000 yard ocean swim in my SwimRun wetsuit, but no other gear. The water temp has dropped - one said 58, while the other claimed 56; so let's say 57 degrees. This is longer than any swim segment in the race, and it was easy and I didn't really get cold... Well prepared for that. Later, I did a 4 mile hilly run. Not quite that easy, not as long as the two longer runs in the race (not as steep, either.) So, not much of a run taper yet. But, I have til Sunday. No matter, the 100/100 challenge has given me really good durability, no speed, but I can go far.

Damn. I am so jealous that you are doing Catalina. I’d be there but alas, I have a foot injury and I’ve become fat and slow.

Let us know how the race goes!

Good luck, I'll be watching the finishing line cams.

today in the pool:

300 easy
8x50 drill
3x50 on 50. Some 30.x's for the first dozen then 29's the rest of the way but sub 29 on the last 3.
50 easy
4x200 pull testing some big fuckoff pull buoys for SwimRun.
50 easy

3100 scy

buoy mini-review:
Ark Pontoon (plastic) vs Ark Keel (large angular foam). I am pretty sure the pontoon is a tiny bit faster, but of course if it punctures it becomes a liability (feels pretty solid though) whereas the foam is just 'less foam' if damaged. The pontoon also jams me up into my junk on a flip turn, and is harder to keep between the legs while swimming in a regular jammer (it almost hit me in the face at the end of a rep after letting go with my legs)-- but neither is relevant to an actual swimrun race, where one would be in a wetsuit and have the buoy tethered to you somehow. Both are about double the size of a standard TYR buoy, and I could feel my heels above water at some points during the swim they provide so much lift. I think the foam buoy is probably easier to carry during the run, as it would better conform to the body whether on the outside of the thigh or behind the back, whereas the pontoon is likely to bang and bounce at least a little bit. The pontoon, however, does not need any modification, just loop a belt or bungee through the middle and you're done. Need to try both again with shoes on.

This is my race partner/GF’s buoy she bought and I prepped for the race.

Nice, that looks professionally done. Adding some flair for easy sighting is a good idea as is the reinforcement around the hole.

MIT, day 3 of 3. I did 3700 yds in the main part of the pool, then had to switch pools so the swim team could get in. I watched the varsity swimmers with NCAA qualifying times pitch themselves off the block, then split a lane with a varsity swimmer who did not have those cuts ("bad championship meet", he told me sheepishly).

GREAT morning. At least 5500 yds.

500 w/u
300 moderate
100 easy
5 x [300 fast + 100 easy] 4:01, 4:01, 3:57, 4:00, 4:01 high
8 x 100 alt kick, drill by 100
500, 400, 300, 200, 100 easy; the 200 was single-arm fly
more general goofing off
