Di2 Bike Packing
Hey ST
Is it best to unhook the rear Di2 and derailleur when packing your bike for travel?
Thanks.

I pop my chain off and unplug/remove my Di2 RD. I just don't want to risk a bent hanger traveling. I've had it happen before when I've flown with my bike.

I would completely remove the rear derailleur from the bike.

2x I had to remove and hand carry the battery

Both times where in China

First time as I was boarding the plane, a security guard handed me the battery they had removed

Second time they scanned the bike as I dropped it off. They saw the battery on the scanner and made me remove and hand carry it

I have never seen this in North America, South America or Europe

I unplug everything. Every wire. Remove the junction box and rear der. Guess I leave the JC41 in the BB plugged in.

Just easier to know all wires are plugged in correctly prior to race.

I also always carry a spare battery and 2 wires.

I guess I'm the odd one out because I don't do any of those things. I just put it in the case and go. Never had an issue.

If you don't remove the rear derailleur, you can end up with a bent hanger.

Whether it's Di2, ETap or mechanical, I always unscrew the rear derailleur, wrap it in bubble wrap and tape it to the frame so it doesn't move around.
