Was she banned? Or DQ’d?? Do they ban age-groupers?

Age groupers can indeed get banned. She was banned for 12 weeks during the 2019 Australian Winter, so effectively no ban.

Stimulants like caffeine only make a difference to performance if your effort is the limiting factor. Which it shouldn't be... even in short course you race at max lactate steady-state. Go hard mid-ironman and you cramp up or bonk.

Effort-limited work has no place in triathlon training or racing unless you're ramping up the last km with an early sprint. Everything is paced.[/quote

Beta-2 Agonists have more physiological effects than increasing effort.

But aren't you forgetting the other factor that caffeine provides, the release of more fat into the bloodstream? I get the elevated HR argument, but for endurance athletes, the release of more fatty acids that can be then used, well seems like a pretty nice bump to me. Or has that dynamic been debunked and I just didnt hear about it?

When I was racing in the 80's, I recall there was a study done on mice, where they swam them to exhaustion, and the caffeinated mice swam noticeable longer.Yes HR wouldn't really be a factor here, but something helped those jacked mice go longer, seems like the more available fuel would be an answer to that..

Burns more brown fat but doesn't save glycogen. And how often is performance limited by availability of fatty acids?
To be fair, most people feel stronger or more focused when they take it, so it must stave off some people's premature decisions to slow down or quit.
Just doesn't compute when people use it before a normal workout or pretend it's physiology science gains rather than a willpower crutch.
Tim Noakes fanboy if you can't tell already..
