Say you fell walking down the stairs and your butt was a beautiful shade of really deep purple.

How long will it be before it doesn’t hurt to sit down?

Also any suggestions for ab exercises that are not crunches nor involve sitting on your butt?

You could try planks or mountain climbers. Though the use some of the glute muscles, so depending what exactly you you hit down there (muscle vs bone m, vs something else) they could be hard to do.

As long as you didn't bruise your Coccyx... it shouldn't be to bad or last to long. Otherwise it can hurt like hell and take some time to heal.
