Tokyo (Shinjuku) lap pool?
Advice needed: I’m headed to Tokyo for the first time (for work) and would like to get in some swim training while there. Is anyone familiar with any lap pools in the Shinjuku area and have any recommendations? Thank you.

Hey I used to run quite a bit in the Yoyogi Park next to Shinjuku when I used to stay there. But I see Shinjuku Park Sports center has a nice pool:

Shinjuku Ward Sports Center.

Just use swimmersguide.com as a good starting point.I use that now that I can't really qualify myself as a runner and need pools when I go on travel.

Besides Dev's good option, another is the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center's 25m pool. Adults can swim there.

There are no 50m pools in downtown Tokyo that are open, the only two are now closed for pre-Olympics renovations.

Make sure to check the days that they are closed. And you must wear a cap and will need to cover up any tatts. Watches and "devices" are also not permitted.

Good luck.

There is a (very small) pool in the Hilton if you happen to stay there.

Good advice... is the covering up tattoos rule just for that pool, or all public pools in Tokyo? I’m glad to know that in advance!

Thanks; I’ll be at the Hyatt Regency which claims to have a lap pool, but the photos make it look like it’s about 10m long max.

That applies to many public pools/baths, so check with them in advance

What sort of work brings you to Tokyo? Asking strictly from a curiosity point of view.

I actually work in Seoul, I'm just familiar with Tokyo. Recently started working in the corporate world after 5 years in engineering

In case your question was also for me; I’m in education in Canada. The Canadian Embassy in Japan is hosting an international education fair and I’m going with our international student program director to learn what she does.

The Hyatt Regency pool is very small and usually VERY warm.. but it is at least a pool. Grand Hyatt (Roppongi) is the only Hyatt in town with a decent pool for laps. If I really need a good workout while in Tokyo I swim at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium which has a 50m pool with very wide lanes. Lots of people in each lane but the lane is wide enough that it works fine. Not too far from Shinjuku. There are a few other strange rules: no jewelry of any kind. They would not let me in the pool with my Garmin on my wrist. Swim cap is a must (all pools in Japan seem to be that way.) They have a shop there so you can pick up goggles and a cap if you need them. Have fun, it is always an adventure:). I travel internationally for work and I have found some rather strange pools over the years (and some pretty spectacular ones as well.)

Thank you! I always travel with my swim cap & goggles but I appreciate knowing the local customs. I have never been to Japan before and am quite looking forward to it. I’m not sure how much time I’ll have as I’m not in control of the itinerary, but hopefully I can slip away for at least one swim. Cheers.
