So, I actually have the results book from this race (and a race log)... and fortunately my memory is correct. The lake swim was around 65F, the bike was a hair longer than 40km, at 24.94 miles with lots of up and downs (slow course), and the run was mainly cross country, on private rolling grassy dairy farm land (slow course), with plenty of lumpy sections, that could easily twist an ankle. I was thinking this would be a challenging course for many, including Dick Hoyt, who was there with his son, but he probably conquered that with ease as he was exceptionally fast at that point of his racing career.

So... Miles crushed the competition. He won by 1 minute and 34 seconds, against the likes of Molina, Riccitello, Harold Robinson who was having a great year, Garret McCarthey, Devlin, etc. Sounds like the genetics and coaching was effective!

Is there an actual question in your post?

A whole bunch. I'll help you out so you can answer them line by line:

Would I see massive benefit to adding strings of weeks together?
Would I see benefit from racing less and stringing together longer builds.
Is there a big benefit if I just decide to increase volume over the off season.
Have people had success at getting to low 9 hours in Kona on <10 hours week or is there a cap on where I'll get with this volume at that longer distance?

Those aren’t real questions, those are someone’s id seeking validation. He already knows what to do.
