Were there any “celebrity” spots this year? I always found the novelty of a former elite athlete competing somewhat compelling (a celebrity chef, not so much).

Ben Bostrom raced this year (Former Motorcycle Racer) and did quite well. Not sure he is a mainstream "celebrity", but I'd be pretty star struck if I saw him in person.

Tony Kanaan was here, not sure what the circumstances were but I don't think he raced.

Yeah not sure what happened there. Looked like he was going to be racing and Wattie was posting a lot of him and made him a bunch of custom gear.

He was just there spectating as he mentioned it is a nice vacation for him after a long season. He raced in 2010 or 11 I think and said he is getting the itch again. Just a huge fan of the sport and loves being a part of it.

I'm not sure why IM ever did this in the first place???? I doubt anyone ever decided to do a IM just because celebrity joe blow was gifted a Kona slot.
likely for viewers on the NBC broadcast. "Oh, hey, Chef Ramsey, let's watch..."
