Why does a 10 speed 11-23 cassette cost twice as much as a 11-25?

I was looking to get a cassette with a tighter gear range for a race in Miami. (I typically ride in Seattle, so I don't need the 11-30 that i currently use for hills).

When i did IMAZ on a similar cassette it seemed i was always *missing the gear i wanted.

On Amazon, a SHIMANO CS-6700 11-25 is $56 but a 11-23 is $123

The difference is that the 11-25 substitutes a 16 tooth cog for the 25. (But I tend to rid mid cassette most of the time... so i might actually miss it)

Is there a reason for the price difference? Or is it just that the 11-25 is so much more popular that there sell eleventy billion of them but only a few people want the 11-23?

I do the same thing as them, just slower

Basically this. Narrow cassettes aren't in fashion.

If you don't need the 11T, you could maybe also look for a 12-25.

Have you checked other stores? Amazon tends to be priced quite high time. That and it can fluctuate quite a bit based on how many are in stock.

The Amazon seller is probably using it as a placeholder.

I suspect it's because the Shimano Ultegra cs-6700 in 11-23 are getting harder to find. There are none at Jensen, Competitive Cyclist, Excel Sports or Colorado Cyclist. I found the 12x25 at Jensen for 52.99.

I'm traveling and will be until the end of the month. But I have 3 or 4 of the Ultegra cs-6700 11x23 in my parts bin that I will sell you if you're still interested. PM me and we can discuss details.

12-25 is the ticket for Miami or any super flat course.

Yeah, pretty much zero point zero % chance of using the 11 if it’s that flat.

Get the 12-25 and ride happy.

SRAM 1050 is $69, 1070 is $85.

I run a SRAM 1070 on my road bike with a Shimano rear derailleur, and have no complaints.
