He started that post strong, but quickly faded. Basically, his final thoughts were that Kienle & Wurf will not win. What an overall disappointing blog post.

Pink? Maybe. Maybe not. You decide.

There are going to be 18 to 20 pro men of all nationalities in the chase pack behind the uber-bikers like Starky-Wurf by mile 50 of the ride, and it will turn into a poopshow of drafting non-calls, Rapp-esque strategic blocking, and shunning responsibility for chasing the leaders down.

If you honestly believe Lange is the only one benefiting from the a paceline in Kona, you've had one too many drinks out of a coconut shell this week.

I've been thinking the same thing. The field is so deep this year it is almost inevitable a huge "pack" will coalesce.

This is why triathlon needs to be swim-run-bike.

Forecast is for lots-O-wind. That will change up the race big time

Maybe the first thing is gamesmanship. But also watch Sanders running. For years he had a hitch in his step. His body finally gave in this year and that hitch turned to a running injury. Well it’s fixed and the hitch is virtually non existent. When Sanders was leading a couple years back the hitch really got worse the more tired he became. Jan and Sebi both know that won’t happen this year. No hitch means he’ll have energy to defend a lead if he has it and energy to chase after somebody as well.

Lead group- Amberger, Frodeno ***, Brownlee***
+ 2 min - Baekkegard, Clavel**, Nilsson*, O’Donnell***, Svensson
+1 min - Cunnama*, Alonso, Boechener**, Currie***, Dellow, Fontana, Frommheld**, Gambles**, Hoffman***, Lange*, Drachler, Llanos**, Loeschle, McNamee*, Potts*, Reed*, Sapunov, Starykowicz**,

I think Svensson probably outswins Nilsson so maybe closer to Amberger group than 2 minutes
Potts is probably atleast in second group.

I was by TJ Tolakson this afternoon and Michael Lovato was giving him a run down of the wind. What I got out of it was no wind until Waikoloa way and they it will be a cross headwind from the right. Hawi will be windy and back to the cross tail past Waikoloa and the closer you get to town there should be no wind only a headwind kicking up after 1pm. That means tail out on the run along the Queen K. Seems it will be a mild year.

The wind in Kailua Kona is not the wind you care about. The better forecast of concern is in Hawi which is a solid 50 miles away. There is a reason why there is a wind farm in Hawi only 1 km or so off the course.

They seem to be calling for 36 kph easterly winds with gust to 55 kph. The Easterly wind means it hitting them straight on as they turn up from Kawaihai to Hawi. If the 55 kph gust do materialize, there should be no packs left in the pro field (or only small groups)
