Trisuit for Kona

Help me choose a good trisuit for Kona. I like longer sleeves, full front zipper and pockets.

Raced Castelli Sanremos for the last couple seasons. Great suits. Want to try something different.

Cheers !

I would suggest anything with sleeves at least down to the elbows. I've been so burned over the years in Kona that I went from clear freckle-less shoulders, to nothing but a sea of freckles/sun spots. Back in the day there were Speedos & tank tops for the most part, we struggled to find a decent sunblock to withstand Kona sun. Most of the visible damage was done post-Kona "peeling" and it was bad.

You're lucky to have so many choices these days. Cover up no matter what you do. I'm in the process of getting a suit with sleeves made myself. Just got samples last week so just need the design & order (I like custom suits so sorta my thing to be different). Get a good pad. I'd also say a single zip attached at the bottom rather than a double-breasted sided suit is better in that, you'll have an easier time zipping up since you don't have to line up the two sides of the zipper.

Example: Roka Gen II is a double sided zip & a PITA to get on over sweaty upper body after a potty break (I have one of these). Castelli looks the same. DESOTO is a "single zip" it looks like--that is the better way to go in my experience--as I have samples of another manufacturer which are the same single zip.

All of your requirements, plus an ice pocket behind the neck in my favorite, Kiwami Spider 2. The most technical, compressive suit I've found, but as shown in my sig line, I'm very biased, and also quite particular in what I use.

Have something that covers your back. BUT

In the ABC stores there they sell a 110+ banana boat spray on. I used it and didn't get burnt at all. I got up and sprayed it on naked and then let it dry for a few minutes before getting into my trisuit.

Can't recommend it enough.

Don't be one of those people in Honolulu 3 days later with 6 layers of skin peeling off you.

Well, that but need to find a reef safe sunscreen.

I would definitely say go for something that has rated sun protection, Something like the Fusion SLi speedsuit. At least that way no worries about the sunscreen washing off of your back.

I've been testing different equipment in hot races (70.3s) this year in preparation for Kona. I raced the Vietnam 70.3 in the Wyn Republic aero+ sleeved tri-suit and found it to be very comfortable and helped keep me cool in what was an insanely hot and humid race. The fabric in the upper body is light so that when it's wet it feels cooling rather than heavy. The chamois is also super comfortable in aero position whereas I've had issues with other kits in the past. I wore the suit unzipped and rolled down under my skin suit at Vietnam and will do the same for Kona, pulling it up in T1.

I just purchased a Wattie Ink tri suit and I'm very impressed. Expensive yes but the best quality, best fitting and what I believe will be the coolest tri suit I have ever had. I'll be trialling it in a hot race in a few weeks and will be wearing it at Kona.
