Well, the article you linked essentially says that the person who is not athletic is unlikely to choose athletic things, and more likely to choose things that they are physically suited for.

If anything it reinforces the narrative that you are likely to be able to achieve what you want, because you’re less likely to want what you cannot achieve.

See what I mean???

Actually, since boxing is a weight class sport, a skinny guy could take it up and potentially do well, which would prob increase his self confidence and make him less shy. :)
