SRAM/ Quarq Hidden Bolt Removal Frustration. Help!
I have a Quarq power ready GXP crankset with the hidden bolt. I finally decided to buy the Quarq power spider to install. I started to remove the bolts with a 5mm and 6mm allen key. They were a little seized and took some muscle, but I removed all the bolts until I got to the hidden bolt. I put some muscle into it and then the bolt turned. Then it kept turning, and turning, and turning. The bolt behind the crank arm is turning in sync with it now. How am I supposed to remove this bolt when the opposite bolt is blocked by the crankarm?

I got this bike recently and I have had Shimano cranksets on all my bikes except for this bike, so forgive me if there is an easy answer to this. I searched youtube and google and strangely there is nada on removing the hidden bolt.

You need to remove the spider which is held on by three T25 torx bolts.

As above, remove the spider so you can access the hidden bolt. Alternatively, lift the opposite side of the chainring to put a side load on the bolts while you unscrew.

The hidden bolt is press-fitted into the chainring, sounds like the ribs have been stripped off (see bolt circled in red in pic). I can't remember if there's even an allen keyed hole on that bolt. You might have to drill it out of there. You are going to have to take the spider off anyway, so might as well do that as mentioned above to see if you can get any grip on it.

Thanks for the help. It seems SRAM/ Quarq likes to keep people guessing with the hidden bolt. A friend has his bolt into the crank arm and I've read a bunch about a knurled nut, but my hidden bolt was a standard 5mm and 6mm bolt. Taking off the spider first did the trick. I don't know why the installation video states you have to take off the chainrings before the spider. Thanks again.
