I wonder how many of these we will find littering the run to T1?

I bet those would feel weird for those that don't swim with splayed fingers...which is basically anyone good.

Splayed fingers sure, but from everything I've read we should be swimming with relaxed fingers. I used to always hear "spoons not forks" but I think this promotes an unrelaxed hand and in fact a little space between the fingers is actually more efficient.

Once you've practiced pulling them off while in the water, people will start finding these littering riverbanks all across the country, downriver of triathlon swims.

I'm closer to the feathered end of the spear than the point.

I don't pay attention at all to where my fingers are, splayed or otherwise. it's probably the last thing I think about. I try to keep them flat rather than cupped, but splayed or not, dunno. I'd guess that they're slightly spread, as that's how my fingers are when I'm relaxed, but I don't think that finger separation matters that much.

I do stick my thumb out when wearing paddles though. Helps to stabilize the paddle.

Is "splayed" too vague a word for y'all?

The swimming in that first video on their website is uncomfortably horrible.

Well, I went back to an old video and it looks to me like I swim with alternate fingers splayed / tight. Spock-style, y'know....

and slightly offset, so that when my hand moves laterally I get a kind of biplane effect for additional lift.

I get that a discussion of proper hand technique wasn't your point but I thought it was worth having a brief discussion about!

Fingers a little apart creates more surface area for the pull, water between the fingers has tensile attachment between your fingers and is a benifit.
