I am looking for some advice. I am thinking of entering XTERRA China to be held in Kunming in September. Kunming is 2000 metres above sea level. I have read a little and it appears that this is regarded as high altitude-just. I race and live at sea level with no experience racing at altitude and have no opportunity to train in these conditions.
I am just wondering if I have anything to worry about racing at this altitude with my background? Not a podium guy but better than MOP in HIM/Ollies. I was thinking of getting there 3-4 days before the race, really to get over jetlag after a 12 hour flight. Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated before I make a decision as to whether I will enter. I do these races for enjoyment and not sure I would enjoy altitude sickness. I was also considering XTERRA Japan but it looks like a super technical bike course.
Thanks in advance.
