Canyon speedmax cf - Should I buy it now?
I plan to buy my first TT bike. I think of buying the canyon speedmax cf for different reasons : fit, look, price

But, the speedmax cf was released in 2016 if I am correct. Is there a new one coming in 2019 for 2020? I don't want to spend 2300e if a new one more aero, cheaper, nicer come in 2 months.. What do you think?

I just plan to race with it in 1 or 2 Olympics this year and 70.3 next year.

There will always be a newer, more aero—although probably not cheaper—version right around the corner. There are better times of year to buy than others to save money but that probably won’t come until end of the tri season.

If you plan on staying on rim brakes, buy it now.
The disc version could be the next release.

I agree. If you want disc brakes wait. But he stated cost in his decision. I’m loving the fact that rim brake wheel sets seem to be on average $400-500 cheaper on the classified than years past.

Thanks for advices.

I am not really interested in disk brakes.. No problem with rim brakes on my road bike, even in the alps.. And I prefer the fact that I can use the same wheels on road bike

Maybe I'll regret it, but for the moment I don't "need" disk brakes. And I'm afraid of the extra cost that may be applied the the speedmax cf with disc brakes.

FWIW, if there is going to be a disc brake bike (and I don't know that it's happening anytime soon), it will be with our SLX model. The CF will likely remain a rim-brake bike, as it's a more practical build for the average triathlete (standard brakes, standard stem/fork interface, making it all easy to service, pack for travel, etc.) So I feel confident in saying getting into a Speedmax CF now won't result in buyer's remorse. Anyone waiting for a disc brake version of the CF may be waiting a while....

Jay - This is probably a long shot, but any idea when the Speedmax CF 8.0 SL size small will come in stock? I've been waiting a few weeks for that one. It came available for about 5 minutes earlier this week but was then sold out again before I could order. I'm also interested in the Aeromax but most of those in a comparable price range are sold out in size small as well. Thanks

Just did my first race on the CF 7.0 with some small upgrades (mainly Aeria hydration, PD race cups, tririg frontbrake). Obviously used my racewheels (disc rear, 80mm front).
I can highly recommend this bike; it's easy to work on and very fast, really I don't think I would have made any significant time-gains with a 2-5x more expensive "super" bike!

Eh... that's a tough one. Like you said, we had a small allotment of them roll in, and they rolled out quickly as well. Trying to get some 411 on when our next lot will arrive... once our supply chain manager returns from Germany. Hang tight!

Thanks Jay. I actually just bought an Aeroad instead. I'll save the Speedmax until next year.

Not a terrible choice. I've got Eagleman 70.3 next weekend, and have done exactly two rides on my Speedmax (all last week).... all the rest on my Aeroad. n=1.

I think you'll be happy though... and yeah, we plan on having a more consistent supply of Speedmax CF SLX 8.0s here in the near future. Still ironing out demand as we go....

Hey Jay, just in case something with disc brakes would come out, would you know anything about sizing? I am panicking a lilttle - I am 6'10 / 208cm tall and up until know there were 3 Bikes for my size - the old Cervelo P5, the Speciliazed Shiv and the Canyon Speedmax CF. Since Cervelo and Speciliazed were so nice update their models without an XL size they had before, I am basically left with a Speedmax CF. Any signs that Canyon will stop producing that size as well? Or will there even be a SLX in size XL after a potential discbrake update?

Hey Ben, I've zero visibility on anything, and am on a total need-to-know basis, which is basically last second. That comes to everything; model updates, design, fit, anything. So I can't say anything with any authority about sizing, any geometry changes, any added size model, etc. for any of the models. When anything comes out, I have about a week of heads up on it.... so in total truth: wish I had 411, but I've no visibility on it.
