In response to another thread on here, this is asking more out of interest and other peoples experience (and not for me...I am a few kgs from my current race weight goals!)....just wondering whether anyone on this forum has been through bariatric surgery (lap bands, gastric sleeves etc) and either started or come back to triathlon? I have had two friends have massive weight loss through this surgery (40-50 kg) and dropped down into the 60-70kg range, but neither of them are heavy exercises. It would create some nutritional challenges to potentially take in enough calories to train and race, I can ask some surgeons I know but would be interested in whether anyone has experience themselves or with friends they can share?

We've coached a few athletes who've been down this path -- as mentioned, race hydration and nutrition can be a challenge, but we can get there.
