Westwood Lake Tri 05/19 - racing notes

Always impresses me how well the event is run by http://www.dynamicraceevents.com

I think the course is tough and was ready to slay the beast but my vision isn't best so that kinda tripped me up this year.

The swim start was aggressive because the water was warmer I guess. ~ Midpoint I saw someone on their back, motionless and coughing. So I headed over with the idea to summon assistance if required. The paddle boarder was on it, so gave a wave continued on. I tried but I couldn't find a reliable draft this year , so decided to swim in open space.

I was railing a descent into the "staircase" using the middle of the lane (not shoulder area) and hit a rock. The twang of the spokes followed by wooosh. Like what the ----. Just by chance I tossed a tube in the bike and had two Co2's. The tire was hell to take off and put back on. And I had to do that twice because I lost the bead on the first inflate. Burned the ears of the course worker, who was very nice.

Re-joined the race in last place for sure by that time. My effective swim would be over 1 hour. So put the coals to it and was able to beat the cut-offs.

On the run (despite other side tracks) I tripped on a root and rolled down a hill. Got off with just rash on my shoulders. I heard 4 other runners had tripped up as well.

Next year I am going to ride the bike course beforehand - lots of rough spots and some fast descents.
