Maybe, I think its more that he seems to really only shine at the Majors and even then he seemed to be 2nd fiddle to Tiger. Even the Masters, it was a three way tie for second, and I am not sure but I think Brookes had the low score of the 3 on Sunday,... in otherwords came the farthest back. I think with TIgers back issues.. (he made a ref, to Nicklaus last masters and finishing on the front nine.. similiar day to what they had.. seemed like he was hinting it might be his last...) and after this PGA weekend, I wonder if there is much left in the Tiger story.. Would be nice to see Brooks win the next major.. I'll admit not sure what it is well its an open not sure if its The Open or the US Open... Wow a three pete for the US Open would be something.

Next up is the US Open at Pebble Beach and then the British Open in July.
Lots of great golfers right now so no one will be a slam dunk at Pebble Beach but Koepka will be the favourite.

That said, calling it 'The Open' doesn't make a ton of sense when there are dozens of country 'Opens' now. It's just easier, descriptively, to call it the British Open.
Do Brits get pissy that one of their countrymen hasn't won the tourney since Nick Faldo 26 years ago? That's a LOOOOOONG time without a home-born champ.

I think the fans across the pond are just receptive to good golf so I'm not sure how badly they need a countryman to win to be satisfied. I feel like that's an American thing, to crave an American Masters or US Open champ.
I think in general that the U.S fans are more personality driven. If Tiger is playing, attendance both in person and on t.v skyrockets. In Europe, they seem more interested in the actual golf. Obviously a sweeping generalization but certainly what I've observed. Tiger draws more fans in Europe too but that's largely driven by the stature assigned to him by the media and the "Tiger golf fans".
I'm not sure if Americans care if an American wins the Masters or US Open, as much as the media focuses on it. There are a lot of people who would be fine if Rory won the Masters and probably would have been fine if he won instead of Koepka. Lots of people want Mickelson to win the US Open, not simply because he's American but because of his long history of coming close.
