Yes, I'm still using mine with no issues. They are my race shoes, plus I used them over the winter at the velodrome. I have a relatively long/narrow foot, and was reasonably careful not to make them too tight initially.

I have my Garneau LA84s set up with a zipper very similar to AJ's (zipper down the middle). Have raced two years on them, all good. Only short course though so there's that caveat, but I used some somewhat elastic fabric on either side of the zipper so there is a little stretch.
