I recall reading previous threads from each of you about your experience in the military, and have a question or two about applying. One of my young relatives wants to become a Navy Seal (along with 10 million other people), and has enlisted in the Navy. According to his father, he has already signed a 4 year contract, and I have no idea what the contract states. At this point, since he signed a contract, he will be bound by the terms, but I have heard of recruiters promising something and new recruits finding out they didn't understand what they signed up for.
- Is it even possible for a 19 or 20 year old with no military background to enlist in the Navy, and be put on a list of people eligible for BUD/S?
- If Navy Seals is the end goal for an enlisted man, what is the best path to get there?
- If he is not genetically gifted (i.e. bigger, faster, stronger, mentally sharper), what is the probability of success?
My estimate is he has about a 0.01% chance of finishing BUD/S, and probably won't even get the opportunity for BUD/S.
Thanks for your help.
