Sounds kind of like (and kind of not like) a passage in Pacho: A Novel of Mexico by Don Eric Carroll.

It's not a one liner, but a paragraph or two in the midst of which a character says "A flower dies because it has served its purpose in life, done its duty, need not live on any longer. It must make room in the land for other later flowers from future seasons." Then goes on to say people are analogous, you get married have kids, if you're lucky you see your grandkids, and once you grow older "you'll easily understand the life of a flower."
