I was able to extend a layover in Munich Germany and we'll have a few days to be tourists. Any suggestions for things we must do or see in the city or surrounding areas? We will be there in the middle of May

The town square (Marienplatz) with the giant figurine clock tower was cool.
I felt obligated to go to Hoffbrau and hoist a bier. We had fun there.

Newschwanstein castle.
Dachau
English gardens
Marienplatz
BMW museum
At least 1 beer hall with a proper pretzel and a stein.
They do a good bus tour or cycling tours.
You can also really easily get down to Salzburg in Austria via train and see Mozart’s house, the castle, etc. it’s not a long trip.

If you go to Neuschwanstein, I suggest renting a car. It's a couple hours from Munich.

I thought Newschwanstein Castle was very over-rated but the town of Fussen was cool, we stayed there for a night.
Dachau, very moving
X2 on the beer hall

Each day is what you make of it so make it the best day possible.
Fussen was better than the castle, the absolutely beautiful lake... brings a tear to the eye.
When I was there one of the horse carts that ferries (fat) tourists to the castle ran away and the horse got creamed in to a wall by the cart....Road was closed a few hours while they sorted it out.
I was also EXTREMELY hungover from three days of octoberfest prior to my train ride (don’t get a car) out to Fussen. In a train cart full of school kids. Do not recommend.
