Who will lead YouTube in triathlon

Seems like both Talbot and Taren have put forth the most work on improving triathlon content on YouTube. Taren uploads far more frequently (daily) and get more depth while Talbot seems to spread more breadth with the numerous channels he runs. I don't really seem them competing, but just trying to find their space in a niche sport, both seem to do well and serve their audiences for what they want.

Who stands to grow the most? Seems like it would benefit Taren directly the most, while the exposure would help Talbot grow his personal career more. It doesn't seem like either is going to directly gain much in terms of direct revenue strictly from YouTube if you check out their YouTube subscriber data below.

Ironically it's Lionel that is closest to Taren.

Edit: GTN is MUCH bigger than either Taren or Talbot, and probably the most direct competitor with Taren.

Talbot Cox

Lionel Sanders

Taren

Global Triathlon Network

FWIW Ironman is just over 100k.

Well the fundamental paradox is that anything that is that good and that is compelling will probably move onto bigger and better things. Triathlon is still a huge niche.

I'm feeling this new up-n-coming Pro Triathlete Frank Sorbara (me lol) (https://www.youtube.com/...g?view_as=subscriber) going to mount an incredible come from behind. Lol but seriously, if people interesting I'm posting videos every single day on anything/everything triathlete related. Yes videos aren't as glamorous and bright/colourful as Talbot and others, but if want to see what real down-to-earth triathlon life looks like the lows and highs check out my channel I'd really appreciate it.

There is(was) an old channel called Everyman Triathlon with Joanna Zeiger that is pretty old school, but loaded with content. Looks like they just stopped making videos out of no where 2 years ago. If they would have hung on longer, maybe they would have absorbed some of the new influx of viewers.

Are you saying triathlon is a gigantic nothingness, a massive dimple, a vast pinhole, or a colossal cubbyhole?

So Talbot or Taren will expand past just triathlon to make content and a career? The sport is too small to stay in?

I just think if you are really good at what you do you will find out there is far more money in something more general that fits the masses.

That was my buddy Roman Mica and now he does car reviews. It pays a LOT better because it's not a niche. Anything that is a car niche, he splits off into other channels all under the same parent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oDzvy_D2Ng

He probably looks back at the triathlon stuff and asks himself what the hell he was doing spending so much time on something with so little interest and money in comparison.

Nothing against any of the channels you named, but the best triathlon guy on youtube is sportspinner. Not only are his videos stunning in appearance, but he's got incredible access. Sportspinner's individual channel has beautiful content, but I believe he does all of Laura Phillip's videos as well, which are the highest production triathlon videos on youtube. Laura releases tons of videos and they do have english subtitles for us Yankee folk.

I've been thinking about this for a bit. In terms of truly helpful advice, I think Triathlon Taren is far superior to GTN. I find this ironic since Taren is just another age grouper (albeit a very good one) while the GTN presenters are all actual former professionals. But yet, the advice doled out by GTN strikes me as way too general and totally unhelpful. Taren's tips are far more specific, likely more controversial, but worth watching. By contrast, the GTN videos almost seem like they are geared towards people who are just learning the sport.

I hadn't heard of this Talbot Cox guy until I saw this thread. His channel looks nice, but most (if not all) of his content is geared towards middle to long distance triathlons, so I don't think it'll be the leader, since shorter distances athletes (like yours truly) have less of a chance of stumbling upon his videos. I sometimes watch GTN videos and find them very well produced, but as already mentioned, they're not systematic in their approach to giving training tips. Also, I find that GTN presenters sometimes take themselves way too seriously, and that's why I like GCN better. Despite not liking the guy and the channel, I think Taren's one will be the leader. It has lots of product reviews (and that's where the money's at on Youtube), Taren's an age grouper and, above all else, he talks about stuff with such confidence that he might very well be bullshitting you and - if you don't know better - you may fall for it.

I don't know about Talbot, but there's a commom point between Taren and GTN: they should call a specialist to talk about nutrition, because nobody at either channel knows jack shit about it.

Thanks for the shout out. Over the years I have found a single youtube channel does not generate $$ like I thought it would so I have really put a holt on mine. I only do the Kona Series now which is a big investment and loss on my end but it's my passion. Usually cost me about $5k at the end of the 2 weeks. I now work with athletes as a social media manager. (Lionel Sanders, Tim and Rinny Show, Gwen Jorgensen) We do everything from Photos for sponsors partners, Social media posting, Promotion and hype of athletes to brand building. Last but not least youtube videos. Which are usually just a fun way to interact and update fans. We plan to never compete with Tarren or GTN as those are more tech reviews, skills, tips and tricks.

My 5-year plan is to continue to launch new channels and run socials for "A" level athletes. (Outside of triathlon) And eventually, be a social media agency for professional athletes. That promotes them, their brand, and helps get new sponsors.

I have already been in talks with 2 High-level NFL athletes, 1 Professional golfer, and 1 MLB Baseball player. This does not mean I will move completely away from triathlon. Triathlon is my passion but will grow my media team to continue to produce content and make money so I can continue my passion in the sport of triathlon.

Levels of activation
-Merchandise stores coming for all the athletes I work with.
-Training plans (Downloadable Schedules)
-Also inviting fans/celebrities to come and train with athletes in offseason to create fun content.

Looking to add to the family
Jordan Speith - Golf
Kenny Stills - Football
Ironcowboy - Endurance rockstar
a few others :)

At the end of the day, my channels youtube are not about quality. They are meant to be personal journals and fan updates to keep people entrained on the people they enjoy following.

I also want to thank each and every person has supported me this far and watched my videos and follow my athletes. Because of you, I get to call this work!

Cheers,

Gotta respect Talbot, the truth is that a lot of us are pretty jealous of what he gets to do. That being said, one has to respect his drive to leave his job on a whim and try to make this a career. I'm looking forward to his work with other athletes and the continuation of his work with his current athlete lineup.

I MUST ADMIT. I feel Taren’s videos are chalk full of advertising for his ‘sponsors’. From that hunk of shit Ventum to these lessons from pro coaches (Like Tower 23).

(Ok maybe my point of view is off). He seems like a very nice guy though.

Nope. Taren is full of bullshit. Unless you're into people hawking Spirulina.

GTN I like.

I was pretty sure that Lucy Charles was starting up a youtube channel, but so far it hasn't happened. She has a pretty big reach, so that would have been a cool one.

What I see is Lionel Sanders continuing to grow. Tim and Rinny show continuing to grow.

But, Talbot just shot a project with Daniela, she would be very interesting.

If you like GTN videos, I'm sure you saw the one about not wearing underwear beneath your cycling shorts. It's one of their post popular videos!

That's one of those videos that I skip. I'll be honest, they put out some crap too.
