Communists embrace the metric system.

I use it when doing home improvement projects around the house.

There is no doubt it's a better system. I can do both but prefer metric, but still think temperature in F better than C, although again C is the better system.

Yeah, I got a metric tape measure a few years ago. Back when I doing photography all my technical measurements were in metric.
Unfortunately everything I deal with at work is in freedom measurements.
I agree with you on Communist temperature. For some reason I just can’t get with it.
Weight as well (body weight). 83 kilos just doesn’t sound right.

I grew up in Canada with the Imperial system and it changed while in school. I still find I convert temperatures and distances (miles/km) and have no idea when it comes to km/litre for gas or ordering things like deli meats in grams (I just order in number of slices).
There are other countries that use a mixture (Philippines, Bermuda) and since I've lived in the U.S and those countries, I'm still using both systems.

I use both, but prefer the metric.
Distance: Miles or kilometers. Meters instead of yards.
Speed: MPH, but KPH is fine too.
Weight: Lbs and ounces.
Liquid: Gallons.
Temp: Fahrenheit
Tape measure: Feet & inches but primarily because it is hard to find a metric one.

On the subject, what's the proper pronouncement: kilo-meeeter, or kil-aahmeter? I feel like we aren't consistent, using both kil-aahmeter and milo-meter.
I prefer kil-aahmeter, in which case I should probably say mil-aahmeter and cent-aahmeter, which is weird, right?
The devil made me do it the first time, second time I done it on my own - W

Metric system, blah blah blah. I bought into it until I went to Japan for work and said "WTF?" To their units. Newtons? Nah, how about kilogram force instead? Pascal as a unit of pressure? Nope. Let's divide by Earths gravity and use kilogram force/mm^2. So sell me on the virtues of this system again....

when i lived in the UK (over 20 years ago so it may have changed) they had a mix. Work was metric - weighed in kilos, measured distance in mm, cm etc, forces in newtons, pressure in pascals; but drove home from work at mph, over distances in miles and weighed ourselves in stones, despite buying food at the store in liters (but beer at the pub in pints), grams and kilos (this bit was sometimes odd in that the weight of canned stuff was a strange number of grams .....which was clearly a pound).

There are 2 types of countries in the world; those who use the imperial system and those that are dead wrong.

Here in Ca, in the 70’s they tried doing the liter vs gallon thing. I worked at a friends family gas station during that time. The sheeple did not go along with that scheme. To this day, I still can’t figure out why stupid people would yell at me all damn day.

I think this quote by Josh Bazell pretty much sums it up:
Quote:
In metric, one milliliter of water occupies one cubic centimeter, weighs one gram, and requires one calorie of energy to heat up by one degree centigrade—which is 1 percent of the difference between its freezing point and its boiling point. An amount of hydrogen weighing the same amount has exactly one mole of atoms in it. Whereas in the American system, the answer to ‘How much energy does it take to boil a room-temperature gallon of water?’ is ‘Go fuck yourself,’ because you can’t directly relate any of those quantities.

Coming from Oz the only thing that seems more natural to refer to the imperial system is height.
6' always seemed like some sort of benchmark. People seem to clearly distinguish between 5'11" and change vs 6' rather than 182 cm vs 183 cm (approx).
