Not that I know of. Realistically, if you make your living doing tris then putting a hard marathon in your legs in a race where you are unlikely to be anywhere near the money isn’t a great way to lead off the season. Tim Don did it a few years ago, but he was recovering from a broken neck at Kona, and it was part of his road back, not a competitive race. It was also probably a good way to give his sponsors some visibility (the halo to marathon story got a lot of press pickup).

Sam Long is running Boston but I think that’s the 2020 Boston he is planning on running.

Yeah. Sam only ran one open and that qualifies him for 2020. Depending on how his season pans out, he may not run in 2020. The kid might need to go grab a slot at TX next year.

I thought his time of 2:32 was pretty impressive for a tough day with a head wind most of the day! I’m not sure how many pro triathletes could run a 2:32 marathon?

Lots could run that fast, but Sam is set for another breakout year.
