But I assumed master's was still categorized (Cat 1/2/3 etc)...Now the master's is categorized not by ability but by AG as previously noted???

(ETA: I know the reason behind master's...i just didnt realize master's is then not categorized in usac apparently).

Did you not read my previous reply to you? Masters are still categorized 5/4/3/2/1, just with an age qualifier. Some masters races are limited to certain upper categories. Masters Nationals is for categories 1/2/3 only in some age groups, for example. But others are 40+ Open, meaning that the only qualifier to enter is to be of the prescribed age. It differs from race to race. But regardless, a 39 year old cat 4 is still cat 4 the next season when they age into the 40+ age group.
