I’m back in the sport after a few years, bought a bike and now need to get some pedals. I am a middle of the pack age grouper (55-59) and am riding a Felt D4. In looking at pedals on Amazon I can get a Shimano PD R550 for about $70 and then I see Ultegra for like $150 and Dura Ace Pedals over $200. Can someone share with me what the real benefit is of going to an Ultegra or Dura Ace....or Look Keo.

The benefits of the more expensive pedals are :
- weight reduction (very small);
- bling factor;

In addition to lighter weight, as the Shimano pedals get more expensive they also have a shorter stack height.
As for Look vs Shimano. I’ve ridden Look Keo’s and Shimano Ultegra. I prefer the Shimano as I just felt like there was a better platform when pedaling as well as when I needed to clip in. But pedals generally come down to personal preference
