Family weekend in Nashville--ideas?
We are going to drive to Nashville from MN for a long weekend Wed-Sun. It's about a day's drive. Wife, Myself, kids 16, 12, 10, 10.

Never been there. Want to eat at Diercks Bently's Whiskey Row, Luke Bryan's restaurant. Suggestions on things to do/see?

This is my favorite bar in Nashville. I think you can take the kids in there before 6pm. They play older country music, rockabilly and the like, not the new crappy popular country. They also make a good greasy cheeseburger and fries.

Walk Nashville Capital Mall State Park a must, eat lunch at the farmer market. If weather sucks and need to stay inside, go out to Opryland resort, tourist trap but it is massive and beautiful botanical gardens

You and your 16 year old son can hang out on Broadway and watch all the young ladies honky tonk hopping wearing stuff that leaves little to the imagination...

In Louisville, it's become the go-to destination for party weekends. It's referred to as Nash Vegas.

Went with my brother's family this summer. Did the Johnny Cash museum downtown. Younger kids got bored pretty quick, older ones thought it was okay. All the kids liked the Grand Old Opry, the science museum and indoor rock climbing. We also did a plantation tour which was pretty cool.

Take a tour of the Gibson guitar factory - great way to spend the morning. Make sure to book in advance.

When is the last time you were in Nashville? I don't think they done this for years. Their Chapter 11 exit has been delayed (as of December).

OPer - You might want to spring for a room at the Opryland Hotel and do the new water park.

And yes, pretty much all honky tonks allow kids prior to 6PM.

If you want good BBQ - Martins BBQ or Peg Leg Porker. NOT the Jacks BBQ on Broadway.

Bicentennial Mall (mentioned above) is torn up due to New Year's Eve. But the new Tennessee State Museum is open. I hear it's interesting though I haven't been. For another good meal - Monell's (near Bicentennial Mall). Served family style and the best fried chicken. Breakfast through dinner.

Hot chicken - Most go to Hattie B's. It's good with multiple heat levels. The Charlotte Ave. location is easier to get in to.

For the most fun - go to a Preds game if they are in town. Though sometimes tickets can be hard to get.

A tour of the Ryman is interesting. As is a tour at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Then go eat Mexican food at Bajo Sexto. You can also stop and do a tour at the Hatch Show Print (and maybe make your own).

When are you coming? There is always something going on every single weekend.

Too bad. Jacks was good 25 years ago. One of my more memorable experiences was eating there and going to a bar next door where we happened upon BR5-49 who really blew us away.

That and the fireworks show for the bicentennial where then vice president Al Gore spoke (right after he invented the internet)

That's what happens when you don't have work to feed anything but tourists and the drunken masses. The Jack's on Charlotte Ave. isn't bad. But Martin's, Peg Leg and Edley's are all far better IMO.

BR5-49??? What is that?

We really liked “The Row”. It’s a family friendly place and we sat in front by the stage. Live music as you eat your food. Good times. That’s the place I miss when I think of Nashville!

We took our kids (17,15 and 14) there in the fall. Their favorites were the Ryman and the Parthenon. But also enjoyed the honky tonks on Broadway and a good ice cream shop on first or second.

They have a shitty hockey team. If you want to watch the home team lose, then check if they are in town.

How does Danny Hart sit down with balls that big?
