Texas Republicans reject vote to oust GOP leader because he is Muslim
Quote | Reply
I would like to look at this as a small step forward but the fact they even considered removing him because he was a Muslim is highly disconcerting;

(CNN)A bid to remove a Texas county GOP leader from his post because he is Muslim has been rejected.
The Tarrant County Republican Party voted on Thursday to keep Dr. Shahid Shafi in his post as vice chairman, according to the Star-Telegram.

In a video posted on the Star-Telegram's website, Mike Snyder of the Tarrant County Republican Party announced, "the vote total was 139 to support Dr. Shafi and only 49 to reject him."

Snyder went on to say, "tonight's vote demonstrates the majority of Republicans in Tarrant County stands with Dr. Shahid Shafi. And on the firm foundation of religious freedom memorialized in the Declaration of Independence."

The vote actually means there is a full 25% of Texas Reps in Tarrant County that are idiots and don't believe in religious freedom. Their next vote should have been to remove the 49 people who voted against.

Yeah give credit where it's due but at the same time pretty sad that there was an element of the GOP there that wanted him removed expressly because he's a Muslim.

This explains also why there are almost no self-proclaimed atheists in Congress, despite the national average of about 22% being unaffiliated with a religion.

From my understanding, it was the efforts of one woman who even made this an issue. He had overwhelming support, including from Ted Cruz, the Texas governor, and other high ranking state officials. It was one crackpot who was the bad apple.

On the left we have https://www.newsweek.com/...hts-columbus-1270859 and we have to applaud Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard for her support of the nominee

I wonder how the vote would go for an atheist.

Reading that makes it seem like the questions were really about anti-abortion bigotry not anti-Catholic bigotry?

Kind of like giving someone shit for belonging to Hamas and then claiming you're being anti-muslim for doing so.

Leaving aside it's not clear from the article that the KoC are really all that anti-abortion.

Not well would be my guess. At least Muslims are willing to buy into the same "delusion".
