Strasbourg (That's in France) Gunman Kills 3, Wounds 13 in Christmas Market
Quote | Reply
French police and various other law enforcement and security agencies are still searching for a "suspected extremist" who opened up on shoppers patronizing one of Europe's best-known Christmas markets, located in the city of Strasbourg, killing three with his firearm and wounding another 13 in the process. France, already on edge because of widespread rioting by disaffected middle and lower class citizens, popularly called the "yellow vests" or "yellow jackets" (my French sucks), was made even more nervous by the shooting and the fact that the shooter, 29-year-old Cherif Chekatt, still remained at large, this despite a manhunt of gargantuan proportions.

According to news reports, Chekatt has a "lengthy record," including jolts for armed robbery and other violent crimes. He apparently was "radicalized" ("radicalized" to what is being delicately avoided) while in stir and had been "monitored" by French intelligence agencies. France has declared Chekatt's attack to be an act of terror. Hmmm... looks like those damn Lutherans are at it again.

At what point did he become 'radicalized'? Before, after, or at some point along the way if earning those 27 convictions?

Seems like he has been rather unhinged for some time. Not so sure I'd be so quick to blame this one on Islam.

Long Chile was a silly place.

At some point liability should be put on the judge, that let this career criminal loose.

A lot of radicalization occurs in prison, a breeding ground for terrorism. The idea that you will stop terrorism by putting people in places like Guantanamo for decades is pretty naive.

Fortunately guns control in France make it hard to get machine gun.
The guy had a regular gun.
Had the guy gotten a machine gun we would count dozens of deaths ot more.
Very sad story, not sure making a joke of it is very fun.

You're right. I've advocated for years that terrorists caught out in the field should be tried summarily and then summarily executed, something that should have happened to those folks cooling their heels at Gitmo Bay. It's perfectly legal, partly because they're committing acts of war on behalf of this-or-that non-state terror organization but aren't wearing the military uniform of another nation. That puts them beyond the pale and beyond the protections (due process and otherwise) guaranteed by the Geneva Conventions and other protocols.
