Screw Politics: Here's 1,000 HP of NISMO Power, Baby (Updated: And a Focus RS!)
All you guys do is yak about politics. Politics, politics, politics. B.O.R.I.N.G.

So here's some automotive Viagra for you boys. It's what we're keeping tucked away over at the automotive business in which I have an interest. It started life as a pampered 300ZX 300 HP Twin Turbo and has since been... "massaged." To the tune of 1,000 HP. Lowered an inch, Brembo brakes, complete change of suspension to accommodate the drop (the HICAS on this thing is a blast), rotors and pads to handle the increased need for the "stop" part of "stop and go." Sticky tires and nice wheels. Exhaust wide enough to swallow a whale. You name it, it's had it done, and we have NISMO to thank for it in large part. :-)

Personally, my favorite Z car was the 1983 two-seat turbo (with the inline six) that I owned back in the mid-1980s. But these Z32s are fine, too. Come this summer, it's going to be torturing a few Camaros, 'Stangs and 'Vettes for sure.

I wonder if horse riders said the same thing. That's fine. If you like souless machines the spew smoke.

Personally, I'm pretty excited to see what electric cars are capable of. Records are already starting to fall.

I'm even more excited to see what will happen in cities with a lot less noise and pollution.

Is that a Skyline? I'd never seen one in person until several months ago I saw one on a car carrier truck on a local freeway. I had to snap a pic of it.

Nissan sells the GT-R here in the States. A guy around here has a Skyline that was JDM and he managed to get it here. He brings it out during the summer. Quite the sight. There's also a fellow with a JDM Nissan 300ZX. Really good looking ride.

I'd seen the GT-R (a friend of mine has a black one), but never the JDM Skyline. I'd been hearing about the JDM Skyline for 20-some odd years, but I'd never seen it until that day.

Need.

If I ever hit a huge lottery, I'm going to commission a car a-la Ken Block's Gymkhana "Mustang."

Somehow this seems like its getting a little close to political commentary. I do agree that electric will crush speed records in the near future.

I'll grab a photo of the local guy's JDM Skyline when it's out and about. He takes it down to the local park on Thursdays during the summer months, early evening. Lots of guys bring their vintage and recent muscle-type cars down there during the summer on that day, weekly.

I'm a Detroit car culture guy from when I was first old enough to back my dad's '68 Ford Torino stick shift out of the garage (I had a '68 go-fast ride back when I was 17... and man do I kick myself every day for giving it away when I enlisted in the Navy). I've had foreign and domestic and I continually tinker with them whenever possible. I was a gas pump jockey at a full-service station when I was in high school (we did every kind of mechanical repair, right up to full rebuilds). There's just something about the life that always has stuck with me, even if all I have the time and energy for these days is finding the rides and then handing them over to the young gearheads with instructions on what I want.

I think many of us are going to miss American car culture when it's gone, though we don't believe so right now. That Japanese video just highlights the culture's allure. Me, I keep a wholesaler's license mostly so I can go to dealers-only auto auctions and pick up iron that gets me going. I have to sell 24 units a year to keep it, and keep the biz on a property that meets state requirements, but that's not a problem at all. I suppose maybe when I'm in my mid-70s or so and heading for the raisin ranch I'll give it up, but maybe not. ;-)

I like sound and the fury of the ICE. Just can't help myself. And this is what we picked up yesterday, and will be trotting out in the spring. Found it at a Ford new car store in Ohio. The Focus RS. The stock engine pumps out 350 horsies, which can get the 3,400-pound car down the road pretty quickly. But it's going to get a massage over the winter, of course. Eventually, it's going to another buyer, but not right away. ;-)

(This really is the golden age for muscle and pony cars, by far. The late-60s and early 70s can't hold a candle to what even stock cars fresh from the assembly line are putting out in terms of straight-line and road performance.)

Definitely agree. How can a guy like you be from Detroit and not appreciate American muscle. I'd love to own a great big American boat convertible from the day. Had a 1965 Ford Galaxy years ago and regret selling it. But I'm actually more into British stuff especially if it has an American V8. Had a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger and currently a 1980 Triumph TR8. But what I'd really enjoy is one of these. Also it has a version of the Buick/Oldsmobile derived V8 sold to Rover that's in my TR8.

IIRC, there is a poster here who drives a nice Morgan. I can't remember who at the moment, though. As far as old British stuff goes, I've always admired them, but never been brave enough to own any. I have enough trouble keeping old German stuff running, and don't need any extra "help" from Lucas. ;-)

EDIT: I was at a Classic Car festival with my 914 last year. We were set up by Marque and had to parade about a half mile to another area. BMW and Porsche followed MG, Triumph, Austin Healey, etc.

The teasing was merciless: With a wistful look, "I hope those guys make it to the green Ok". "I'm not sure of the route, but we can just follow the oil trail from the British guys..."

I love 'em all. Don't care about the country, either. If they elevate my pulse one way or another they're just fine with me. And I love Brit rides. Especially the classic Triumph TR6. :-)

I'm about 2 years into a Focus RS now and you're wasting some of the RS's best attributes if you don't drive it in the winter. The worse the road conditions, the more awesome it becomes, especially relative to most other cars.

If you are planning to sell the car on in a few years, don't mod it... the clean ones are going to be rare as hen's teeth, just like it's nearly impossible to find a stock used WRX. The only thing I have done is (on the second day) I unplugged the fake engine noise generator module in the trunk. I will never understand why someone thought it was a good idea to give it a subie growl.

The Canadian cars came equipped with both the winter and summer wheel sets, which was pretty nice. I think that if I had to pick up a third wheelset I would try to find an 18 x 9 set... or get the Turbomac's in 18 x 8.5.

Less is more.

More are coming in now as it's legal to import cars at least 25 years old. So I've seen a few R33's for sale and R32's. But the R34 in the picture started production in 1995 so it may not be fully legal in US. But some have been imported anyways and I think you can import to Canada.
