Swimming; hairy as Teenwolf..

How much is my ‘rug’ slowing me down? Out of season I let nature run it’s course and I am what one would term politely as ‘hairy’... I wondered how much faster I would be without it all (chest/back/arms/legs)? Any rough empirical data out there?

(No prizes for the first to pipe up with an hilarious decimalised random number for a 100m)

Depends. Are you a male or female?

I'm "moderately" hairy. Shaving down and taper gets me about 3s per 100, I guess the shave is worth maybe half of the total with the taper being the other half. Just as a guess.

That's in a speedo, obviously shaving down for a wetsuit swim doesn't really matter at all...

At least .03 per hundred if you're like me, swimming in the 1:26-1:30 range. I trim w/ a 1/4" guard and even that's worth 2-3 seconds. It's easier to shave my front pelt than my back pelt---thankfully, not as hairy on the back, but still--every little bit helps.

I keep the hair on my head pretty short, but how much would a swim cap save someone.
