BTW, this is one of my favorite clips:
https://www.youtube.com/...qN5L2q6hfWo&t=7s
Tucker opens up with ad hominum argument and straw man. The piece is on Bill Nye’s accusations about deniers, which was misrepresented as “suffering from psychological delusions” when what he said was “cognitive dissonance.” Furthermore, why is it even an interesting topic? Well, to try to discredit a person who is a visible champion of climate science. He also misrepresented a quote about jailing them as war criminals.
At 1:41 Tucker Carlson says “the essence of science is extreme skepticism” deliberately misrepresenting what Nye is referring to which is denial, not skepticism.
At about 2:00 he interrupts Nye’s attempt to explain the difference between a skeptic and a denier, and then says, “Hold on, before the name calling begins…..” Nye wasn’t doing anything remotely close to name calling. Tucker is trying to manipulate his audience into thinking that Nye is being unreasonable.
At 2:15 Tucker points out that the climate is always changing, trying to play into his audience’s beliefs that what we are observing now is perfectly normal. If Tucker is smart and did his research, he would understand that that is a completely irrelevant point (which I’m betting he knows).
2:34 Tucker says the core question is what is causing the change and that it is an open question, not a settled question. Again, he’s lying.
At 3:00 Tucker is now employing the nirvana fallacy, which is to say that if scientists don’t agree to within a decimal point of how much warming is caused by humans, then whether or not they are causing it at all is an open question.
…….and it goes on and on and on like this. This is what Tucker does.
