If an ultra run is your thing, I think the Fat Dog course in BC is spectacular:

Things that I’ll never do but will always intrigue me

- Rottnest Channel Swim - solo is 20km in open sharkey water (at least last year was ..) in WA, Australia

- I love swimming around islands so Manhattan is on this list (not mine) ... no sharks but you may go face to face with lots of sewer, burnt cars and dead bodies. It’s called 20 Bridges Swim now? Used to be another name I think?

We went caving in Vietnam and will be back one day to do the Son Doong Cave.

This sounds fun and tough. What are the logistics (run long :)? Advice? Should I start a new thread? Should I have a bail out option?

I've done R2R2R and it was one of the most fun days I've ever had. Don't go in the middle of summer. Either go in the spring (April) or September/October.

We stayed at one of the Grand Canyon resort hotels, and then had a non-participating spouse drive us to the South Rim (South Kaibab Trail) at 4AM on the morning we started our run. This was the middle of October so it was 35F when we started. After 20 minutes of running (descending), we all stopped and took off our jackets because we had warmed up.

I believe it's right at 22 miles across. Almost all of this traverse is runnable, except the ascent of the North Kaibab Trail. Some people may run this but I power hiked most of it. At the North Rim, in October, there were no services available. We didn't explore very far beyond the sign, at the top, so not sure if there is a store of any kind a mile or two down the road.

Along the way, water sources are ample, you just have to make sure they are turned on. These are actual clean water spouts/spigots (or whatever you call them) and they are located so frequently along the route that you really don't need more than a 2L bladder. If they are not on, then be prepared. We took water filters with us, but never used them. There is a small stream along a lot of the trail.

On the return trip, we took the Bright Angel Trail back up to the South Rim.

Do this run. I cannot wait to do it again one day.

A buddy and I are planning to do Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim next year for something different.

If your buddy drops out (or if anyone else wants to do this.....) R2R2R is on my very short list of things to do but I don't want to do it solo.

I wanted to do similar outside the norm things this year, and did R2R2R, Celtman, and Canadaman. I would recommend all of the above, but R2R2R really was in its own league, especially thanks to the $0 entry fee. Lengthy writeup available.

Pet project of mine this year. I’ve done a 10er on clip ons on a roadie at 25.5mph this spring.

I’d need an ideal route and day but pretty sure it’s going to happen in 2019.

My dream effort is a 20min 10er someday. Lots of work to build up the power for that.

No. Plan on this year and if possible then run rabbit run 100. I am not sure if I can recover in time. The Rut 50k is tough to. I have done that, or Bridger Ridge run
You asked for something different and challenging :o)

We seem to be seeing the same interesting events as I also saw the Bridger Ridge run and immediately wished I was doing that race. The two videos, on their website, are great for showing the running along the ridgeline. Looks epic.

Ok, I'm officially intrigued!!! Have you done one of these?

I've done the Spartan Death Race twice, once with Andy involved and once without. Andy puts on that specific event now. I did his 88k race a few years ago, and if Sin-nomine is anything like his other events it'll be really great. The guy is something else so worst case you'll have a really great time.

Oh and other events I've done which aren't specifically Tri related

https://peak.com/death-races/ Probably the gnarliest of them all
http://fuegoyagua.org/survivalrun/ down in Nicaragua
https://www.friendsoftuckermanravine.org/inferno not super hard, but a lot of fun
http://www.metallakrace.com/ Did this before they switched its formats, but it was a day long grind.

Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming
- Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (20 Bridges)
- Catalina Channel Swim
- English Channel Swim

Just one of those is an epic challenge by themselves. If you do all three, then you are one of less than about 200 people at this point who have completed it.

The logistics at Badwater have to be insane. Not only providing for the runner's needs, in an extreme environment, but also the entire crew (in an RV) over the 135 miles.

A few years back, I met a Canadian guy who said he had done RAAM. He told me the costs for a trip like that is anywhere from $60,000-$80,000US. I guess I'd never thought about the dollar amount being so high. If ya don't have sponsors, or independently wealthy, who can afford that???
