I'm building a back yard zip line for my kids. The launch point is from a tree house platform and ends across the yard. I want to have the trolley and seat be self-retracting so they don't have to be concerned with getting that trolley back to the top while they're climbing back up into the tree house. I've done a few quick internet searches and can't find a product that specifically says it does this. Has anybody built a zip line with a self-retracting trolley, and if so where did you buy it from?

Usually they self retract with a rope tied to your ass.

I built a 110 foot long zip line in our back yard. I could not find any practical way to have the trolley self retract. I ended up with an 10' line tied to the trolley with a carabiner on the end. That way they just clipped it to themselves as they climbed back up to the launch point.

I had one about 70' long at our last house. It just had a rope the kid would run back with, it ended up being half the fun. They would get off and then hustle to get it to the next person, so they could ride again sooner.

What kind of insanity is this. Somebody could fall and get hurt.

How about a block and tackle system connected to the trolley the "wrong" way with a weight at the other end, all enclosed in a large PVC pipe? It would slow down the trolley slightly as the rider would be pulling the weight up.
I had a zip line in my backyard and just had a rope off the seat to pull the thing back up to the start, At the end, I put about ten, could of used more, tennis balls threaded through the cable. They acted like a sort of stopper/cushion so the kids didn't hit the tree at a fast speed.
