The Cigar Thread

I am wondering if any of you enjoy an occasional cidar, and if so, your preferences-mild, medium, strong; Ringsize; Brand; Blend.

I'll go first:

I prefer a robusto. Davidoff Millenium Blend, Padron Anniversarios, or if I want to get high, Ashton Virgin Sun Grown.

Stopped smoking years ago. Thought that giving up the thick nicotine high was a fair trade versus mouth and tongue cancer.

Never smoked enough to bother to smoke more than occasionally, so I could justify smoking Cuban cigars. Used to get them shipped Fedex by a hotel in Geneva, without the bands. Also used to smuggle them in baggage from duty-free shops abroad. Stopped doing that after I got the full search treatment at LAX after getting back from Thailand.

Used to smoke Monte Cristo #2 torpedos and coronas, Romeo y Julieta coronas, and whatever else I could find. At the time they were reasonably priced, never interested in the $20+ cohibas etc. The #2 was enough to put me into a serious bedspin when I smoked about half of one on a completely empty stomach once.

If you're a smoker and haven't had a Cuban before, I highly recommend it - the difference in tobacco potency is pretty remarkable.

Cohiba Esplendido,

When I was in Brazil I smoked a Dannemann that I liked but forgot to save the ring, but all in all I like a nice Don Thomas Special Edition, very nice.

My tastes change with the mood/occasion and what beverage.

Playing cards/drinking beer - Punch Robusto (Mild yet flavorful - does not overpower the taste of beer)

Sitting by the fire with a good Port -- Fuentes - either Hemmingway or Fuente Fuente (brings out the flavor of the port)

Brandy on a cold night -- Partagas no. 1 or no. 2 (wood tones of the cigar mix nicely with the brady)

Bourbon (Booker's or Maker's Mark) - La Gloria Cubana Corona Gorda (Powerful Cigar to go with the Powerful beverage)

Special Occations:

H. Upmann chairman's reserve Double Corona -- expensive and worth it. Best with Port, Brandy or Bourbon will overpower the flavor of the cigar)

If I am the designated driver and not drinking -- Dunhill Diamantes -- very mild, no aftertaste - on the sweet side. Goes good with Pepsi or coke or even plain old water.

On a side note: Wine - stay mild - Dunhill or Montecristo

Cuban Romeo y Julieta #3s. Don't enjoy cigars that are much larger than this. Lucky to have Windsor right across the Detroit River. Trip to the Casino, good meal, some good wine with a good cigar. Could this type of behavior explain the recent sorry state of my conditioning?

Chateau Fuentes. Right size, nice and mild. Was in Jamiaca last month and had some nice Cuban and Jamaican cigars. Don't remember the bands.

I like a good cigar 3-5 times a year.

Right now, I don't much stray from the CAO Cameroon. Darn tasty with a bottle...ummm...glass of Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur.

I rarely enjoy a cigar anymore, but I am a pretty simple guy. I just stick to the basics.
