Wheelbuilder disk cover question
Hi,
I currently ride a 2008 Cervelo P2C with a Zipp 808 rear and 404 front. I love this bike, it’s been good to me and I just had all the cables rerouted through the top of the top tube. I don’t think there is much better available without spending a fortune.
I want to add a Wheel builder disk cover. Is it better to
1. add it to the current 808
2. Move the 808 to the front and put disk cover on the 404 rear?
Thanks

So your front and rear wheels are interchangeable?

You can't do that. Just add the cover to your existing setup.

I'm assuming you have a 808 front and rear wheel as well as a 404 front and rear. Obviously you can't move the 808 rear wheel to the front nor can you put a dis cover on a front wheel and use it in the rear.

In any case, I'd put the cover on the 404 rear and sell the 808 set. Unless you plan to do Kona or Cozumel where discs are not allowed, but even then, a 404 front/rear setup is still a very good and common choice for those races as well as if you wanted to put them on a road bike.

Put the wheel cover on the 808 rear. With a rim that deep you can just use tape and get a cover without the holes for the bolts drilled in it. Also, that setup will likely be lighter because the plastic they use for the covers is heavier than the carbon on the wheels.

How would you use the 404 wheel on the rear?

Thanks all. It looks like the disk cover on the back 808. I guess I thought I could have them build my 808 to the front hub and visa versa.

No, they have different rim widths F & R.
You'd need a new hub, and all new spokes (different length, most likely) and then the labor.
Not worth it.

Throw the cover on the 808, and done.
You'll have a great, all-purpose wheelset then - disc for everywhere you can use it (pretty much all non-Kona races) and the 808 for training - & Kona.

float , hammer , and jog
